Meet Adeola Adesola, a proud alumni of the Youth of Enterprise (YOE) Internship Programme from Cohort III. During her time in the programme, she interned with Custodian Investment Plc in Oyo State, where she was eventually retained.
Adeola first learned about the YOE Internship Programme through a job search group on Telegram. Inspired by the positive reviews from previous interns, she decided to take this transformative step in her career—a decision she describes as life-changing.
Let’s delve into her journey as Adeola shares how the YOE Internship Programme has played a pivotal role in shaping her professional growth and setting her on the path to success.
What challenges did you face during the programme and how did it impact your growth?
To be honest, I didn’t face many challenges during the programme. The process was seamless, and the only minor issue was the time-consuming nature of the orientation, which was ultimately for the intern’s benefit.
What role has the YOE programme played in your professional success and accomplishments?
I am deeply grateful to have come across the YOE Internship Programme. It has helped me grow in ways I never imagined. The three-week orientation was especially impactful, providing essential preparation for our placements in various organizations. During this period, I gained valuable knowledge about teamwork, critical thinking, and problem solving. I also connected with like-minded individuals and felt thoroughly equipped for the journey ahead.
At Custodian Investment Plc, it was a pleasure to have collaborated with my fellow YOE interns assigned to the organisation. This helped to foster teamwork and mutual growth.
Following my internship at Custodian, I had the opportunity of participating in the organisation’s graduate trainee programme after which, I secured a permanent role within the organization.
What level of mentorship and support did you receive from colleagues and leaders in your organization?
My supervisor was an exceptional mentor, providing step-by-step guidance and assigning tasks that truly challenged and empowered me. My colleagues were equally remarkable, they were always eager to share their knowledge and lend a helping hand whenever I needed support. Additionally, I had the privilege of looking up to many inspiring individuals within the organization, who served as role models and motivated me to strive for excellence.
What word of advice do you have for applicants and current YOE interns?
My advice to prospective YOE participants and interns is to approach the journey one step at a time. Stay proactive, speak up if you feel you’re not learning, ask questions, and continuously work on improving your skills. This programme has been a transformative experience for me, and I’m confident it can be the same for you. Seize the opportunity and make the most of it!
